As the weather warms, the days start to get longer and spring is fresh in the air, here are some wellness tips you can take forward into the new season to have a positive start to the month.
Get some fresh air
With the arrival of some warmer – hopefully drier – weather, now is a great time to get outside to enjoy the sunshine, if you can. Spending just 15-20 minutes in direct sunlight and fresh air every day can improve your vitamin D3 levels, improving both your mood and energy.
Embrace seasonal produce
With the change of season comes a fresh variety of delicious produce for you to enjoy as part of a healthy balanced diet. With strawberries, asparagus, spinach and peas being in season – and hopefully a little cheaper – it's easier to eat your 5-a-day for a wellness boost.
Stay hydrated
Staying hydrated all year round goes a long way at keeping you happy and healthy. By drinking plenty of water throughout the day, you can make sure that your body is functioning optimally, as well as protecting against illnesses. You can also infuse your water with lemon, cucumber or mint for added flavour and a novel twist.
Spring cleaning
This season is a great opportunity to declutter your home and organise your living space. A clean and tidy environment can help to reduce stress and promote a positive state of mind, leading you to be more productive both at work and at rest. Take some time, if able, to clear out clutter and bring a sense of calm and order to your things.
Prioritise sleep
As the days become longer, it's easier to let our sleeping habits slip, staying up later into the evening. However, prioritising enough quality sleep in your schedule is crucial for optimal health. We advise trying to maintain a consistent sleep schedule and create a relaxing bedtime routine to ensure a restful night’s sleep – try turning off devices an hour before your intended bedtime, or lightly spraying your bed sheets with a soothing lavender scent.
Practice gratitude and mindfulness
The cold, dark winter months can be a difficult time for many in regards to mental wellbeing. As the new season brings a sense of motivation and optimism, try introducing new healthy habits into your mental wellness routine. Such practices can include mindfulness, meditation, yoga or gratitude journaling. These methods can also help to reduce stress and cultivate a sense of inner peace and stability.
Engage in spring activities
Exploring some new hobbies, or picking up old ones that have fallen by the wayside, can bring a new sense of novelty and fulfilment to your day-to-day life. Consider gardening in the fair weather, trying some new recipes with seasonal flavours, or participating in outside classes such as yoga, or sports like tennis. These activities are great opportunities to spend time with loved ones, or make some new friends.
Protect your skin
As you spend more time outdoors, don’t forget the importance of protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Wearing a sunscreen or moisturiser with a high SPF will help to prevent sunburn and reduce the risk of damage to the skin – so that you can spend more time outside feeling protected.
Connect with others
Spring is a great time to reconnect with friends and family. Plan some outdoor picnics, barbecues or gatherings to enjoy each other’s company and strengthen meaningful connections. Social support is essential for emotional well-being and resilience in the new season.
Set spring wellness goals
Take the opportunity to set your wellness goals for the months ahead. It’s very common for new year’s resolutions to tail off by March, but now is a great chance to either re-set more aligned goals, or keep pushing forwards with your previous targets. Whether it’s prioritising more ‘me time’, eating more mindfully, or practising self-care, setting aims and intentions can help you to stay focused and motivated on your journey towards self-improvement and better health.
